The construction industry is undergoing an important reconfiguration. Major changes are occurring in this very significant economic sector that has been considered as traditional or mature. New technologies are facilitating off-site production as well as the integration of the design stage to building. New contractual arrangements have been introduced, changing the roles of stakeholders. Global and highly integrated firms are emerging. Former boundaries between manufacturing of building products, design, on-site construction, maintenance and managing existing stock are blurring.
