ABSTRACT
Higher education institutions continue to undergo fundamental change because of the influence of globalisation. Brown and Scase (1994) stated that universities will be called upon to educate a new generation of internationally competitive overseas students, to create a climate in which innovation and change can take place, to create links between global and local areas and to integrate economic policies with social and cultural initiatives.
