ABSTRACT

The creation of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at Sydney University came in response to students' protest that teaching in that large university covered almost every subject except peace. The process involved consultations between representatives of three groups: students, university staff and members of the public with longstanding interests in pacifism and peace. Following those consultations, the objectives of a Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies were written. The basic objective was: 'To promote understanding of and the means of attaining peace with justice'.
