Traditional institutions of the Gurage people

The Gurage are one of the major ethnic groups in Ethiopia and are among the most mobile groups in the country. As they are found almost in every urban center across Ethiopia they appear to be less ethnicized than other Ethiopian groups for whom ethnic identity matters in their political affiliation. Yet, the Gurage have maintained their traditional institutions relatively intact.
