ABSTRACT
As has been made apparent in preceding chapters, population aging will occur more rapidly in Asia than in any other region of the world over the next few decades (West and Kinsella, 1998). Because of rapid demographic transition and the size of the population in the region, the challenges of population aging worldwide will largely be fielded by Asian nations. This chapter addresses the role of economic resources in social policy for the aged in Asia and the Pacific region.
