ABSTRACT

Personal pronouns are essential in the grammatical systems of any language. Carrying out referential functions, personal pronouns also bear regional differences, differ in usage and meaning in the oral vs. written registers, and vary according to situations of use. The usage and evolution of personal pronouns are deeply intertwined with the social activities in everyday life. The social contexts that give rise to specific characteristics of personal pronouns continue to shift and evolve engendering new changes in the ways we communicate and interact with one another.
