Managerialism, Schools, and Teachers’ Work

Since the second half of the last century, we have witnessed the rise and fall of the welfare state and the emergence of a new state model, led by conservative alliances based on the resurrection of neoliberal principles that were formulated in the first half of the twentieth century. This new model is named the managerial state (Clarke, 2008; Clarke & Newman, 1997).
