ABSTRACT

“Re-membering practices” highlight, extend, and celebrate the continuation of a bond. The therapeutic challenge is not just to discover a continuing bond as if it is already a perfectly formed, empirical fact, but to find ways to work with it, to knead it, shape it, and use it to open new conversations. This chapter showcases one such conversation, by way of illustration, where the stories, values, and connections to a deceased grandmother are woven into the stories of the living as one weaves threads into a tapestry. In the process, future resources and a form of a new relationship with those who have passed are generated.
