ABSTRACT

Worldwide participation in tertiary and higher education has expanded considerably over the past decade. Calderon (2012) indicates that enrollments in higher education (HE) have increased over 50%. Globally, it is estimated that demand for HE “will expand from less than 100 million students in 2000 to over 250 million students in 2025” (Titlestad, 2012, p. 5). According to available information, this rapid acceleration of participation in HE varies in different regions of the world and is predicted to be at different levels.
