ABSTRACT

Coopetition, that is, cooperation between competitors, has received attention in current research. A very interesting topic in the field is coopetitive innovation. Innovations can be developed by combining and sharing competitors’ existing complementary resources and knowledge through coopetition, yet this strategy is confronted with the limitations of protection for innovation and the risks of cooperation with competitors. Despite the growing body of research, results on the relationship between coopetition and innovation are still limited, sometimes even ambiguous, and a clearer picture is needed. This chapter seeks to fill this void by reviewing quantitative contributions analyzing the linkage between coopetition and innovation.
