ABSTRACT

All rural students in Australia share a range of common disadvantages. For example, despite the fact that many rural women, especially on cattle stations, work in non-traditional occupations, the range of occupational role models available to young women is very restricted. Educational and cultural opportunities are also limited: TAFE Colleges are few, and other post-secondary learning centres are remote. Again, support services that are common in cities, for example, women’s information services, health centres and refuges, are virtually non-existent in these areas.
