ABSTRACT

Migration processes are deeply gendered phenomena, and the experiences of actors involved in these processes are shaped by their genders. Therefore, this chapter will focus on the intersections between migration processes and men and masculinities. In the first part of the overview, the nexus of critical men and masculinities studies and migration scholarship will be presented. This will be followed by the analysis of transnational male migrant experiences and their positioning in the host society from an intersectional perspective. Such discussion is necessary because male migrants are not a homogeneous group and the status of certain migrants – e.g., male refugees and so-called ‘international expats’ – differs tremendously.
