ABSTRACT
The academic and political discourse concerning the development of links between CARICOM and Latin American countries has historically dwelt on the notions of isolation and economic and cultural separation between the two regions (Kirton 2011). The discourse always emphasises CARICOM states’ preoccupation with their small size and the potential challenges to maintaining their distinct identity within an expanded regional context with many larger countries and some Latin American emerging powers.
