ABSTRACT
The young field of biotechnology is predicted to grow into a multi-billion dollar ‘industry’ over the next decade. 1 Undoubtedly, a change of this magnitude will have major impacts on the geographic pattern of economic activity. The purpose of this chapter is to examine the industry as it now exists and sketch out what seem to be the major determinants of location over the foreseeable future.
