ABSTRACT
The Portuguese mechanism of judicial review was instituted by the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic of 1976, approved after the military and democratic Revolution of 1974. Its current features, however, were enshrined in the Constitution after the 1982 amendment process. It is a mixed system, as it contains elements that are typical of concentrated, Kelsen-type review and others that are usually found in common law, judicial review countries.
