ABSTRACT

Research into patterns of political transnationalism has predominantly focused on diasporic populations from developing countries settled in developed societies. This chapter is part of a major study aimed at generating empirical evidence on a non-traditional migrant flow. Using online data collection tools, the Swiss population living in Latin America was surveyed in order to identify their relationship with the Swiss political system. Specifically, information was collected on their civic competencies (political knowledge, political efficacy, political attention, and political participation) and their levels of ideological continuity/discontinuity. Multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) was applied to detect the level of influence of different independent variables (demographic profile and migration background) on civic competencies.
