ABSTRACT

A chapter which describes the developmental foundations of mirroring modalities in movement. The chapter is a step in DMT theory development and points to the existentiality of reciprocity and being seen as we grow up. Eberhard-Kaechele provides a differentiated overview on how mirroring in movement successively develops and is the ground of our human capacity to be in healthy contact with each other. First described by Marian Chace, Trudi Schoop, and other DMT pioneers, their clinical intuition regarding the use of mirroring is today confirmed and elaborated by research on embodiment, neurobiology, and social, emotional, and cognitive infant development. The chapter presents a taxonomy of interaction modalities in accordance with developmental theories. The taxonomy is an aid for diagnostics and intervention planning to support the motor, cognitive, emotional, and social development of those in need.
