ABSTRACT

In her chapter a DMT from the US describes a unique movement-based program of suicide prevention in the Chicago area. Suicide is a major health concern in the US and around the world. The Making Connections Suicide Prevention Program is an approach to suicide prevention that incorporates theory and practice from DMT. Protective factors (resilience) as defined in public health are highlighted throughout the gatekeeper training programme by teaching an embodied approach to life skills development in feeling identification, tension reduction, affect regulation, and empathy building. The new model of Movement Thinking Strategies is presented to assist the community at large to observe, understand, and respond to the needs of its members.
