ABSTRACT

In this chapter a DMT from the Netherlands, provides an overview on resilience and how to build resilience through the shared practice of DMT. In her chapter, she describes resilience as a dynamic adaptive capacity of the human living system serving the purpose to adapt to the challenges of a changing environment. Building resilience supports the treatment of mental health problems by moving clients from stagnation to vital adaptivity. Arts-based practices, such as dance movement therapy can contribute to the development of resilience. Core themes of dance are discussed for their therapeutic value and their potential contribution to strengthening a person’s capacity to recover from stress, illness, trauma or psychopathology.
