ABSTRACT

The region has always played an important part in the geopolitical discourse. Be it a Haushoferian idea of pan-regions or later, the Saul B. Cohen idea of geostrategic and geopolitical regions (1963), this term was used to describe an important unit of the political game. Later on, geopolitics was adopted primarily (and solely) by state-oriented geopolitics, and the complexity of the discourse was lost.
