ABSTRACT
Based on literature review (Zupi 2015), and especially in reference to certain classic contributions on the right-based approach and multidimensional views such as those proposed by Kabeer (2002, 2005), Dijkstra (2006) and Ibrahim and Alkire (2007), we can define women’s empowerment as women being able to decide and act, which means the transfer to women of control, competences and responsibility for resources and decision-making, as well as strengthening their ability to make choices. This means a combination of immediate improvements in women’s material living standards (personal dimension) and a psycho-social and political dimension (collective) (Degnbol-Martinussen and Engberg-Pedersen 2003).
