ABSTRACT
It is commonplace to read in many of the Israeli academic and quasi-academic works on Palestinian society that Israeli policies led to new economic and social openings for Palestinian women (Lavine 1982; Ma’oz 1984; Semyonov 1994, among others). The assessment immediately below reflects a typical account of how the Israeli administration “modernized” Palestinian women.
