ABSTRACT

Palliative care is a natural home for an art therapist. Art therapists and palliative care providers share a common ethos that is rooted in a holistic, relationship-based philosophy in caring for the Whole Person. I am proud to have helped establish the Marilyn E. Baker Creative Arts Therapy Program at the Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in 2011. Working as a dually certified Creative Arts Therapist and Child Life Specialist within an exceptional inpatient interdisciplinary team has been a great professional privilege and personal honor. Collectively, our team serves from a place of deep inquiry, witnessing, and advocacy for those we care for.
