ABSTRACT

Destinations need to master many elements in order to be successful destination. Factors such as attractions, accessibility, amenities, activities and similar are important for destinations that want to increase their share of tourism. A touristic destination consists of physical (tangible) and psychological (intangible) elements. Both elements carry various factors that can affect the image of a destination. It is also difficult to control and manage these elements as their numbers increase. In this case, there is an important role for Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) operating in the destination. This section discuss the marketing and image issues of touristic destinations to be successful in today’s highly competitive environment. Various important aspects of destination marketing and destination image formation are outlined and strategies to be successful in the market are discussed.
