ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates the ways that biliterate development can be supported within the ivory tower and calls for reconceptualizing what we mean by biliteracy. Utilizing the continua of biliteracy as a critical frame for understanding the experiences of bilingual high school students at the university and of tutors and students in a university writing center, the chapter shows the possibilities that teachers and administrators have to support biliteracy for adults. It also shows the important role of multilingual and multicultural content and of oral language in the development of academic literacies in two languages.
