ABSTRACT

Most student teachers wonder what part the university supervisor will play in their student teaching experience. They often express trepidation and may be thinking: What will my supervisor be like? Will she or he decide if I pass or fail student teaching? Why does an outside person from the university have to come observe me teaching? What will the observation be like? What will I be expected to do? Instead of pondering what the vision means in supervision, student teachers may be skeptically mulling, “What’s so super about supervision?” This chapter explores some of the varying lenses a supervisor brings to the student teachers’ classroom experiences and specifically highlights through vignettes how five particular lenses facilitated the growth of the novices whose chapters you have just read.
