ABSTRACT

Pluralism as a theory of democratic government was popular in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. It was in this period that important books on the subject, such as Who Governs by Robert Dahl and The Governmental Process by David Truman were published. Since that time pluralism has become less influential, having been challenged by counter theories, such as corporatism, which stressed the importance of the state. 1
