ABSTRACT

The aim of the present chapter is to provide an overview of survey research within the field of individual differences. After providing an overview of the main issues pertaining to surveys, we present a detailed summary of the technical features of this kind of data collection including a theoretical background, quality control issues, sampling procedures, data collection methods, and data preparation and analysis. Next, the contribution of surveys to individual difference research is detailed by providing illustrative examples of how surveys have been used to investigate various individual difference variables. Finally, we provide some useful research directions that can be meaningfully pursued in future surveys of this field.
