ABSTRACT

From the time of Bhagyachandra Maharaj the Jagoi Rāsa Līlā was started in AD 1779 at the auspicious/sacred shrine Langthabal of Shri Shri Govindaji Temple mandap. History tells us the first ever performance of Jagoi Rāsa Līlā was only Bhangi Pareng Achouba which came to be known as Jagoi Rāsa of Manipur. Later on two types of Jagoi Rāsa were also created, Kunja Rasa and Vasanta Rasa during the time of the same king. All these three types of Jagoi Rāsa Līlā were performed at Shri Shri Govindaji Temple on particular days. Maha Rasa was performed on Karttik Purnima (Mera Waphuk- palHiyangei), Kunja Rasa on Aswin Purnima (Mera Wakhinbal Mera). Both months falls on autumn season according to Vedic calendar, and Vasanta Rasa on Cheitra Purnima (Sajibu) spring.
