ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will discuss the first exploratory study on the role of Deaf signers of Argentine Sign Language (LSA) and support the work of LSA/Spanish interpreting teams as team members (in some contexts). These collaborative teams work or have worked within the executive and/or legislative branches of government, interpreting speech, reports, legislative sessions, broadcast, and webcast media, etc., in Argentina. The main objective here is to describe the role of the Deaf person in their work as a Deaf Advisor or LSA coach within the interpreting teams by analysing their competences and limits. We have named this role the Technical, Linguistic and Cultural Deaf Advisor (TLCDA), the rationale for which we will discuss shortly.
