ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the professional career of the deaf translator and interpreter Juan Carlos Druetta, considering his practical and professional experience of training in interpretation and translation of sign languages, International Sign Language, 1 and spoken languages. Druetta, is Argentinian, deaf, a former vice president of WASLI (World Association of Sign Language Interpreters) from 2008 to 2011, known worldwide for his strong involvement in the deaf movement, an interpreter, and a university professor in translation and interpretation. He participated in the foundation of the Brazilian Federation of Associations of Professional Translators and Interpreters and Sign Language Guide-Interpreters—Febrapils 2 —in 2008, in Brasilia, Brazil. He began his career working in Argentina; this led to working in Brazil, other countries in South America, and the rest of the world.
