ABSTRACT

Private Robert Hull of the 50th Regiment of Foot wrote the two following letters to his wife in Warwick. His regiment fought in the Battles of Alma and Inkerman, and took part in the Siege of Sebastopol. Hull seems to have survived the war, to be granted his fervent wish to return to his wife and children. His grasp of spelling and punctuation were somewhat weak; in the letters below his spelling has been retained, but punctuation added for clarity.
