ABSTRACT

George Higginson (1826–1927) was born in Marlow, Buckinghamshire to an affluent family. He joined the Grenadier Guards in 1845, and began the Crimean War as Adjutant of the 3rd Battalion. He served in all the major battles of the war, and was made a Brigade Major during the siege of Sevastopol. He ended his career as a general in 1893, and wrote his autobiography in 1916.
