ABSTRACT
Thomas McKiernan was born in Granard, Longford in 1838. He joined the army in 1853, and became a colour sergeant in the 50th (Queen’s Own) Regiment of Foot. He served in Malta, the Crimea, Ceylon, New Zealand and Australia. McKiernan married twice and fathered ten children.
