ABSTRACT
Two important issues that confront the Left in Latin America need to be discussed. First is the fact that neoliberal politicians have won relatively free elections, defeating prominent leftist and Center-Left political coalitions. Second, subsequent to the elections, large-scale social mobilizations against the newly elected regimes have occurred, involving significant sectors of the population and probably including many who voted for them (nonleftist voters).
