ABSTRACT

The reason for aphasia testing is variable and the assessment of aphasie disorders reflects the differing rationale and needs for testing. The primary goal of the clinician is often to diagnose the type of aphasie disorder and to compare it to similar clinical patterns that will allow prognosis and therapeutic planning. Secondly, the clinician wants to establish an objective baseline upon which improvement or the effect of therapy can be measured. Unless a reproducible repeated measure is used, the evaluation of recovery and treatment remains nebulous.
