ABSTRACT
All philosophies and sciences, especially the teaching and medical sciences concerned with changing human states, "invent" explanations of the human nature they presume to deal with. They project their intellectual and practical concerns into an image of what is essential in our actions and experience, what biology and psychology is there to start with, and what can change. They make up ideas about the beginning infant consciousness, mostly describing its limitations. I think psychoanalysis, and attachment theory, too, has invented the infant mind.
