ABSTRACT
Parenthood has become increasingly a matter of choice and planning, almost like the choice and planning involved in purchasing a new motor car; and this observation applies to the infertile as well as the fertile. Not only is it assumed that whether or not to have a child should be a matter of choice, but increasingly people seek to make sure that any child they have is born with as few disadvantages as possible.
