ABSTRACT

The issue of the limits of reproductive technology can be approached from different (e.g. technical, medical, economic) angles. I want to deal with it from a moral point of view. In that case, it will be clear from the outset that it is impossible – or at least very unfruitful – to jump into a discussion, without saying anything about the context and the moral framework within which such a discussion may take place. Before saying something about limiting reproductive technology, then, I want to make some preliminary remarks concerning: plurality in society, the tension between science and technology at one hand and philosophy and ethics at the other, and the possibility of a moral framework, within which the issue can be discussed.
