ABSTRACT

In discussions about in vitro fertilisation (IVF) the latest success rates of IVF often play an important role. My task will be to reflect upon some questions closely related to that issue. I want to examine the different meanings of ‘success’, I want to ask the question what does ‘success’ mean for medicine and what does ‘success’ mean for the patients. I want to ask how medicine presents its ‘success’, and last but not least I want to examine the ethical implications of these issues.
