ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of a three-month online survey undertaken by Drs Pete King and Shelly Newstead on playworkers’ understanding of the Play Cycle. The online survey consisted of both closed- and open-ended questions and was broken down into four sections:

Defining playwork (this aspect is discussed in Chapter 1)

Playwork demographics (years of playwork practice, current playwork role, highest playwork qualification and main location of playwork practice)

Playworkers’ understanding of the Play Cycle (how playworkers were introduced the Play Cycle; publications read on the Play Cycle and their understanding of the metalude, play cue, play return, play frame, loop and flow and annihilation)

Playworkers’ role in the Play Cycle

This chapter provides an overview of the research design and the results from the study. More details on the playworkers understanding of the Play Cycle (King & Newstead, in press) and the adult role in the Play Cycle in King and Newstead (2019).
