ABSTRACT
Marginality and marginal regions are concepts frequently encountered in geographic literature, yet scholars differ in their perceptions of what these concepts mean. In many cases the meaning of marginality is assumed, and there is little effort made to define the concept. Such vagueness does not well serve geographic research into marginality and the problems of marginal regions.
