ABSTRACT

The increasing prevalence and importance of events on the global calendar has led to the development of a burgeoning literature on event studies. An event is a term that can be used to describe a variety of different occurrences; however, it is most commonly associated with the notion of something that happens (Getz, 2007). In the context of this paper, the focus is on “planned events”, more specifically, events that include the purposeful organisation of sporting competitions.
