ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to offer an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of feminist scholarship and disability studies or, as Rosemarie Garland-Thomson termed it, feminist disability studies (2005, 2006). As I sit down to write this chapter, it is pleasing to note that this field has expanded and solidified immensely since the publication of the first edition of this Handbook in 2012. This chapter, therefore, intends to offer a brief overview of the field for people interested in knowing more about feminist perspectives in disability studies. It is not, however, meant to be an exhaustive and all-encompassing account of every contribution to the field. My main goal is to demonstrate both the diversity and theoretical importance of the field by pointing the reader towards key concepts, debates and authors.
