ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we review the prevalence and trends in parental employment over the past decades as well as in the foreseeable coming years, how trends in parental employment situated in the current global economy may shape parenting, and how that, in turn, may shape child cognitive, socioemotional, and physical well-being. We draw on literature primarily from the United States but also globally to expand our understanding of the topic and to provide international comparisons.
