ABSTRACT

The issue of child protection in recent years is one of the major concerns of the citizens, aid agencies, governments, organizations, civil societies, researchers, academics and others in Bangladesh. Child protection is now understood to refer to preventing and responding to violence, exploitation and abuse against children – including sexual exploitation, trafficking, child labour and harmful traditional practices. It is clearly connected with governmental, political and social commitments. The root causes of child violence in Bangladesh are the lack of proper implementation, monitoring and knowledge of existing laws, loopholes within the criminal justice system, poverty, lack of awareness and so on. Nowadays, the children are becoming easy victims of all sorts of neglect and abuse. The situation demands a more widespread realization of child protection in Bangladesh. This study attempts to review the overall child protection system in the present context of Bangladesh and provide some suggestions on how to ensure child protection.
