Introduction

This chapter introduces the reader to the renewed theoretical perspectives to contemporary forms of violence in South Asia, including lynching, rape, communalism, mob justice, anti-intellectualism and novel forms of violence that have been naturalised, internalised and infiltrated into the social fabric of the subcontinent since the formal end of colonialism.
