ABSTRACT

Academic Labor Beyond the College Classroom: Working for Our Values calls for fundamental change in higher education. While some of the chapters describe instances of institutional reorganization, it’s pretty clear that physical change of that sort is no more than moving around the deck chairs, as higher education—and our values as members of the academic community—hurtle toward the iceberg. The essential moves called for in this book are deep changes in teaching, learning, and in the very definition of academic work, necessitated by new ways of knowing.
