ABSTRACT
The papers in this volume reflect a mutually shared perspective on the part of the various contributors. Irrespective of whether they focus on Soviet or American foreign policy in the region, or both, each author explores a particular dimension of policy to provide us with important insights into how the superpowers define their interests, the constraints under which they operate, and the way in which their perceptions of each other influence their behavior.
