ABSTRACT
Is “Peace through strength” an effective peace message? Do scholars and teachers have a role in “communicating for peace?” To all these questions the answer is yes. But as spelled out in the following pages, this affirmation may depend, among other things, on rejecting reliance on mass media; transcending machismo definition of strength and broadening research and teaching to cope with the emerging role of mass movements in achieving mass communication.
